Dressage NZ is planning the most exciting Young Rider event in the history of the sport, expanding the entry parameters of the show to include unregistered riders, registered riders up to age 25 and Pony championships up to level 4. The team behind the event is excited at the prospect of offering competition to such diverse range of youngsters. There are some 60 classes over the weekend of competition 12/13 January at Manfeild Park in Feilding, which should offer something for everyone.

The competition for the first time is open to non registered young riders from Schools and Pony Clubs or just interested competitors, tests will be pitched accordingly and all will be encouraged to compete.

The 21-25 years section is aimed at some of the serious young riders in the country who have survived school and often university and are now forging there way as competitor in their own right often without the support framework offered to the younger rider by their family.

The previously successful mentor programme encompassing Advanced and Grand Prix senior competitors matched up with young riders that have been identified as future squad members will awarded a championship to the best performed of these pairings.

The ever popular South Vs North derby is now open for applications with the Sport Manager.

Saturday night in the Stadium, our grand prix riders will perform the Freestyle to Music followed by a short master class by some of the country’s leading trainers and riders, this event is free to anyone that wishes to attend. Every competitor at the show has the chance to name their School Dressage Group or Pony Club; they will all go into a draw to win a “Day with Louisa Hill”.

Equitation classes are also new to the event, allowing competitors to be judged on their riding skill and ability, position and effectiveness there will be four levels and entry numbers will be limited, these classes are for registered riders only.
