Rupert Vallance and family own Longspring Sport Horse Stud in the Wairarapa. Longspring Stud produced many top horses over the years by their foundation sire DISTELFINK including Super Moth, Duty Free, and Falcon.
Rupert has been riding horses since he was about 3 years old as his family have a strong tradition of involvement with horses.
He rode overseas in Australia, USA and Canada in the 1970s and still competes in equestrian sport. His particular interest is in showjumping and eventing. His other sport is skiing where he works as a mountain host on Turoa Ski Field during the winter.
