Taiwanese FEI Chairman visits Land Rover Horse of the Year

Land Rover Horse of the Year’s visiting FEI Chairman from Taiwan is getting a first-hand look at how Hawke’s Bay stages the largest equestrian showpiece in the southern hemisphere.

Jack C. Huang, current chairman of regional Group VIII, represents 20 federations for the International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI). Huang, an equestrian himself, has a passion for showjumping, which he endeavours to champion in his current role back home.

“In the early 1990’s I started volunteering for the Chinese Taipei Equestrian Association, gaining my place on the board, where my peers then elected myself as chairman of Group VIII in 2017”.

Group VIII covers many areas such as Pakistan, China and New Zealand.

This is Huang’s first time not only at Land Rover Horse of the Year but also to New Zealand, and his invitation came from Equestrian Sports NZ chief executive, Vicki Glynn. When asked what his first impression of the event was, Huang claimed the atmosphere and enthusiasm of the crowds at the show has already left a strong impression on him.

“Everyone at Horse of the Year has been so welcoming, which has really exposed the enthusiastic atmosphere.”

Amongst this, Huang emphasized that the Eventing discipline is something that has been inspiring.

“I would like to bring home how to incorporate the training facilities for cross-country phase, Taiwan is a small country, so unfortunately we are limited to accessible land, unlike New Zealand”.

Although a show jumper, Huang’s most anticipated class will be the 4 Star cross country phase of the Eventing held tomorrow where he plans to have a close eye on Olympic level eventers, Jonelle and Tim Price, Blyth Tait and Jock Paget.
