Back to Back Crowns for Hansen and Enja MVNZ
Tuesday, 4 April 2017

Chloe Hansen found herself in an unusual situation heading into the ESNZ Open Horse High Points class at the series final. The Opiki rider was chasing the title for the second consecutive year on Enja MVNZ, but she had to finish in the top three to take the series.

“It all came right down to the final and that has never happened to us before,” said Hansen, who has won it many times before aboard Kiwi Motto.

“I wasn’t too nervous and she did OK . . . it wasn’t the best round she has done so I was not completely confident waiting for the results!”

She paid tribute to sister Lucy (Fell) who helped out by competing Enja MVNZ one weekend during the season when Hansen had a wedding to attend.

“Of course Lucy won, so I owe her a big thank you. She is quite handy to put on a horse if I can’t make it!”

Hansen is a big exponent of show hunter and particularly of the series classes.

“It is cool to be doing consistently well throughout the whole season, and not just in one class. It is good show that consistency and know that is who is winning the series, and not just having a single good day.”

Hansen does both show hunter and showjumping and says the two are very complimentary of each other.

“Each benefits in their own small ways.”

Hansen is particularly happy that nine-year-old Enja MVNZ has continued to improve throughout the season.

“She got better as the season progressed, which is always a good thing,” she said of the mare who she rides for Taylor Olliver. “Enja is the most loveliest horse to have around. She is such a sweetheart, gives everything her best and always tries to please.”

Hansen is currently riding and working on the family farm.

“I absolutely love it,” she says.

On hold for now is her teaching career but she says it is something she can go back to.
