It’s looking like a good old Kiwi versus Aussie battle brewing at the Aon Showjumping Waitemata North Island Championships at Woodhill Sands in Auckland this weekend.
Competition will be fierce as top riders from both sides of the Tasman chasing valuable competition time as they head into the New Zealand Horse of the Year next month, as well as prestigious titles.
With more than 600 horses entered in the three day three star show, it will be the biggest event ever held at Woodhill Sands.
The horse grand prix (three star super league) has attracted a massive 22-strong field, including the very inform Aussie riders Billy Raymont and Jamie Kermond, alongside New Zealand’s golden girl of showjumping Katie McVean (Mystery Creek) and rising youngster Luke Dee (Ocean Beach).
Olympians Daniel Meech (Clevedon) and Samantha McIntosh (Cambridge) are also entered.
There’s also plenty of interest in the North Island one star grand prix on Saturday with has more than 50 starters.
Saturday evening’s North Island Speed Horse Championship is always a ripper to watch.
Gerrit Beker (Tauranga) is known for his challenging but fair courses, making every class an edge-of-the-seat affair for all.
The show starts on Friday and runs through to Sunday.
