A clean set of hooves was all Horsesports Suzuki showed her opposition in the horse grand prix at the Central Hawke’s Bay A and P Show yesterday (Saturday).
The gorgeous little chestnut in the hands of Feilding farrier Bernard Denton headed home a nine strong field in the big class of the show.
Just Denton and former Olympian Maurice Beatson (Dannevirke) aboard Centrico went clear in the opening round.
In the jump-off, Suzuki took a rail but stopped the clock at 49.12 seconds, with Beatson finishing up on 56.7 seconds and five time faults.
In the pony grand prix nine came through to the jump-off from the original 14 starters. In the end it was brothers Harry and Jimmy-James Duncan battling it out – both went double clear but Harry and Chocolate Splash were 1.01 seconds ahead of Jimmy-James on Surprise Illusion.
The two premier classes brought to an end two full days of competition at the popular show.
