Laurie In Fine Form at Woodhill Sands
Sunday, 30 November 2014

Katie Laurie and her team of horses dominated the Country TV Horse Grand Prix today at the Woodhill Sands Burmester Realty Show in Auckland.

The former Olympian and world champs represented won the class aboard Dunstan Lucca (owned by the McVean and Shore families), was second on Dunstan Breeze and fourth on Frangipanne De Toxandria. She also won a $400 grand prix bonus for her double clear efforts with Lucca, who notched his first grand prix win.

Thirteen started the class, with McVean the only clear in the opening round over the Murray Graham (Waipukurau) designed course.

The eight-year-old is in his first season of grand prix jumping.

“He’s really coming along well,” said McVean, who praised the efforts of all her horses.

“They all pretty young and going so well for the experience they have had.”

She plans to step both Breeze and Frangipanne up to world cup level within the coming weeks – all things going well.

One of the stars of the class was 14-year-old Briar Burnett-Grant (Taupo) who jumped superbly aboard Ngahiwi Telephonic to place sixth in her first ever grand prix start.
