Four Year Olds on debut

The Four Year Old Class is the biggest class so far with 35 young horses on their way to being serious contenders for the 5 Year Old Series next year. Included in this class are the first progeny of Lindberg des Hayettes a stallion who competed at top level in NZ and is currently with Samantha McIntosh overseas.

There are also multiple progeny here by Voltaire (6), Telegraph (3), Ramirez (3), Picobello (4), Littorio (4), Lindberg des Hayettes (6), Corlando (3), BT (3), and Anamour (4). And in the frozen semen stakes, you can check out 3 or more progeny from Silverstone VDL (3), Jokus La Tour (3), Indoctro (3), Funny Star (4), and Cabdulla du Tillard (3),

Stallions competing

There are 11 young stallions jumping in the age classes so as breeders it is a good time to get out and see bloodlines in action that might suit your breeding program for the future.

Making their debut in the 4 year old classes are 3 stallions - Cervelt MVNZ a chestnut stallion by Chin Chin bred by Mount View Sport Horses and ridden by Ike Unsworth; Cralvin Z a Gr stallion by Crown Z bred by Zangersheid in Germany and now ridden by Gareth Williams; and Riviere Rouge LC a bay stallion by Lindberg des Hayettes bred by LC Horse Farm and ridden by Kyle Timm.

In the 5 year old series, there is Annandale Cassius GNZ by Caretino and ridden by Philip Steiner; Café Colombia by Colombia and ridden by Kyle Timm; El Billionaire by Craighaven Leviosa ridden by Jordyn Becconsall; Telepathy LC by Telegraph with rider Kyle Timm; The Dark One LC by Pyrus and ridden by Kyle Timm and Vollrath Chagall by Immendhof Castello and ridden by Greg Jamieson.

There are a few thoroughbreds in the lineup but looking at the bloodlines, it is obvious how dominant the European warmblood is especially now with the availability of frozen semen making so many more options available for breeders.

The last Distelfinks

Also jumping at the show is the last Distelfink – Katharine Gillaly is jumping Oscar Wilde in the 5 yr old series. Philip Steiner has Shalimah Distellation in the 5 Year Old class - a mare by Distelfink and out of the mother of Brother Brown and Major Brown bred in the Wairarapa by Julie Wall.

In terms of influence however, it is obvious how strong the Distelfink bloodlines are with no fewer than 10 of the horses jumping being out of Distelfink mares. Other sires to feature prominently in the broodmare sires are Silent Hunter (3), Urban (3) and Brilliant Invader (3).

Saturday Night Barbeque

Merran Hain has again provided the beef for the Saturday night barbeque – always a great occasion for the young and old alike.
