Two in Top 10 for Nicholson
Saturday, 26 October 2013

Andrew Nicholson has two horses in the top 10 at the end of the dressage phase in the CCI4* at Les Etoiles du Pau in France this morning (Saturday).

The world number one eventer is sitting in fourth aboard his Kentucky victor Quimbo (owned by Deborah Sellar) and 10th with Mr Cruise Control (owned by Deborah Sellar).

Much has been made about the battle royale between Nicholson and William Fox-Pitt (GBR) in the first of the HSBC FEI Classics series, but both have had to take a back seat to Lucinda Fredericks (AUS) and Flying Fish who sit at the top of the leaderboard on 39.2 penalty points.

Fox-Pitt is second on Seacookie TSF with 41.5, and third with Cool Mountain on 42.2, with Nicholson, who has ridden at Pau every year since it started in 1999, and Quimbo on 43.2 and Mr Cruise Control on 45.3. His third mount, Viscount George (owned by Rovin and Nicola Salmon) is in 29th spot with 51.7 in his first four star start.

Tim Price (NZL) won’t be disappointed to be sitting in 14th at the end of the dressage aboard Ringwood Sky Boy, while Caroline Powell on Onwards and Upwards (owned by Cameron and Mary Crawford and Powell) are in 26th with 51, Lucy Jackson on Willy Do (owned by Gillian Greenlees and Jackson) are in 33rd on 52.5, Annabel Wigley and Frog Rock are in 45th with their 54.8 efforts, and Megan Heath aboard St Daniel right behind her in 46th on 55. Craig Nicolai and Just Ironic scored 64 to sit in 67th place.

The 75-strong field will now look to the Pierre Michelet-designed cross country course overnight.
