Price Still Leads at Boekelo
Friday, 9 October 2015

Jonelle Price and Cloud Dancer II are leading after two days of dressage in the CIC3* at the 2016 Rio Olympics team qualifier at the Military Boekelo Horse Trials in The Netherlands.

The combination notched a brilliant 34.1 penalty point ride on the opening day of the event, but no one of the 84 other competitors could touch it over the two days.
Bettina Hoy (GER) and Seigneur Medicott are their closest rival on 37.6.

Former Boekelo winner Lizzie Brown and Henton Attorney General, who are competing as individuals, are the next best of the Kiwis in 11th spot on 43, with Jesse Campbell and Kaapachino just behind her in 12th on 43.1 and two-time winner Blyth Tait aboard Xanthus III 13th on 43.20.

Tim Price and Xavier Faer scored 47.5 to sit in 40th place while Dan Jocelyn is in 53rd aboard Beaucatcher and 72nd with Dassett Cool Touch.

Brown also has Princeton II in the event and they sit in 77th place on 58.3.
But it is the New Zealand team and their quest to qualify for Rio that all eyes are on. The team of Tim and Jonelle Price, Campbell and Jocelyn aboard Dassett Cool Touch, must beat the Japanese to snare the single team qualification available at Boekelo.

The best of the Japanese is Ryuzo Kitajima, aboard Just Chocolate, who scored 48.6 to sit in 45th place, with Yoshiaki Oiwa and The Duke of Cavan in 49th on 49.7, and Toshiyuki Tanaka aboard Ballastar Bay on 58 in 76th.

Tonight (NZ time) is the cross country phase, and with 20 penalty points for a stop, and very little in it throughout the field, competition is expected to be even tighter.
