THRILLING VICTORY TO NZ IN BOEKELO

It’s victory to the New Zealand in the Nations Cup class at the Military Boekelo International Horse Trials in The Netherlands.

Spear-headed by a brilliant second place individual from Lucy Jackson and Willy Do (owned by Gillian Greenlees and Jackson), with tremendous support from Tim Price and Bango (owned by the Numero Uno Syndicate and Price) who finished 12th, along with Jock Paget and Bullet Proof (owned by Joseph and Alexander Giannamore and Paget) and Annabel Wigley and Frog Rock (owned by Sally, John and Annabel Wigley), the team just edged out the British by 1.6 of a penalty point.

New Zealand led going into the final showjumping CCIO3* phase but there was just .7 between the top three teams. However, they held their nerve to take the win. The Australians, who were second going into the showjumping, added 32 penalty points to their cross country score to slip to fourth, with The Netherlands adding nothing to come up from sixth to move on to the podium.

New Zealand’s efforts saw them finish fourth from just three starts in the FEI Nations Cup series. The team also won at Houghton Hall (GBR) and was fourth in Aachen (GER).

Individually, Jackson was clear to move up a spot, while Price had two rails to move lose his fourth place slot. Paget and Bullet Proof had a single rail down to gain a few placings and finish 29th, while he and Clifton Signature (owned by Frances Stead) had faults to drop to 40th.

For Jackson, the result laid to rest the ghost of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games where she fell in the cross country.

“I am over the moon,” said Jackson.

Wigley withdrew Frog Rock before the showjumping.

The class was won by Frenchman Thomas Carlile aboard Sirocco du Gers, who took the lead in the cross country, and held on, despite a rail in the showjumping.
