Dan Jocelyn returns to winning 3DE form in UK
Monday, 10 October 2011

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong>Today
there was an eventing win for New Zealand, despite Mark Todd getting deposed
from his leading position in Boekelo, when Kiwi Olympian&nbsp;Dan Joyceln
returned to winning three day event form in England.</strong></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span><br><br>Riding John and Chloe
Perry's Brookfield de Bouncer (Tommy) he won the CCI** at Weston Park in a
nailbiting finish with Polly Stockton. Dan has been riding the grey
for&nbsp;just over a year and the nine year old was dropped down to 2* level after
a run out at Blenheim CCI*** last month. <br><br><br>Owner Chloe said that, "Dan
thought he was just to green to deal with the crowd at the water and the skiny
at the same time, because he even though he is nine, he is very low milage,
especially this season when he missed a few outings due to little problems like
a pulled muscle and then the ground was very hard, so we thought Weston would
be a good experience and he would be super competitive in the class. Dan did a
brilliant job on him, I was so nervous before the showjumping I cannot tell
you, we didn't even have a time penalty in hand but horse and rider cleared
everything by miles and I still can't believe we won!"&nbsp;&nbsp;<br><br><br><img src="http://www.main-events.co.nz/Pictures/Jocelyn.jpg" style="display: block; width: 387px; " align="center" alt=""><br>Dan Jocelyn and&nbsp;Brookfield de Bouncer&nbsp;<br><br><o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span>&nbsp;&nbsp;
The horse had been previously ridden by Daisy Berkley and is kept at the
Perry's Brookfield Equestrian Centre (<a href="http://www.brookfieldequestrian.co.uk/">http://www.brookfieldequestrian.co.uk</a>)
&nbsp;near Ascot, where Chloe does much of his preparation himself. In the run
up to this event, she had a fall from Tommy on the gallops when the horse
suddenly spooked. "Which is why I knew what dan was going through at
Blenheim"&nbsp;she laughed. <br><br><br>"We had a good time when Daisy was riding
but&nbsp;she felt the horse needed a man and then she moved when she got
married&nbsp;so it was not so easy to take the horse to her so&nbsp;finding
another rider was a mutual decision and Dan has just worked out
perfectly.&nbsp;He gets on really with Tommy who is quite big and strong and is
so keen he actually suggested an extra dressage lesson before Blenheim
himself!! As it was with&nbsp;Laura Becholsteimer I thought it was an excellent
idea."&nbsp;<br><br><o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span>&nbsp;&nbsp;
The horse was second after dressage and thereafter did not put a hoof wrong.
Dan, who will be remembered for his long service to the New Zealand team with
his great horse Silence, has been short of a really top class replacement but
perhaps Tommy is the one. Speaking last week at South of England
Horse&nbsp;Trials he made no secret of his admiration for the imposing grey.
<br><br>"2012 might come up a bit soon for him, especially with the way the other
guys (Kiwi riders) are going right now, but I think this horse is good enough
if we can just&nbsp;get him past the spooking! A decent result next week might
get us noticed anyway."&nbsp;<br><br><o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
This was certainly a decent result, as the entry&nbsp;at Weston&nbsp;included
international riders from Ireland, the USA and Portugal. The class was
sponsored by David and Catherine Witt's Rockery Park Stud, whose Parklane Hawk
recently won at Burghley. &nbsp;Brookfield de Bouncer will now go back to Ascot
for a holiday. Full&nbsp;resultswill be posted here <a href="http://www.westonht.freeserve.co.uk/wpares.html" moz-do-not-send="true">http://www.westonht.freeserve.co.uk/wpares.html</a>&nbsp; &nbsp;<br><br>-&nbsp;<o:p></o:p></span><em>Story and photographs by Lulu Kyriacou&nbsp;</em></p>
