'Simply the Best' expected at Takapoto Classic
Sunday, 16 February 2025
The Takapoto Classic 2025 brings together the perfect blend of high-end hospitality with world-class showjumping competition at Maungatautari this week.
It’s New Zealand’s premier equestrian venue, set amongst a beautifully landscaped 600 acres of native bush on the banks of Lake Karapiro and emulating the style and sophistication of top European events.
Aotearoa’s best combinations will vie for top honours across Gold, Silver and Bronze tours as well as age group and other classes. More than 450 horses and riders are coming across the country to compete for their share of the $172,000 in prize money over the six day show.
World renowned Frank Rothenberger (GER) is back to design the courses much to the delight of riders and spectators alike. He is celebrated as one of the very best, designing courses at CHIO Aachen, World Champs, officiating at the Olympic Games and other top-ranking events.
The hospitality at Takapoto is unparalleled and there to be enjoyed in the sumptuous surrounds, with curated social events, wine-matched food and of course, wonderful competition.
The popular Farm to Table dining experience (February 20) encapsulates the very heart of sustainable farming at Takapoto Estate and features spray-free produce, honey, olive oil and Angus beef – all grown on the estate – in a beautifully wine-matched menu.
The Skrewball Whiskey Hoedown (February 21) promises an unforgettable night of fun, indulgence and cowboy boots. With mixologists behind the bar and Sweet Mix Kids on the stage it’ll be sell-out.
The Anne Symes Derby High Tea (February 22) gives prime viewing of the competition in the G. H. Mumm Grass Arena with all the delicacies that come with exquisite Zealong teas, bite-sized nibbles and, of course, Mumm champagne.
The VIP Grand Prix Finals Lunch (February 23) brings the best of the best from the week’s competition in the Gold and Silver Tours alongside a sumptuous three-course meal. Hosted in the lavish marquee it offers luxury with comfort and the best views in the house. Tickets are selling fast for all of the hospitality offerings, with some already sold out.
General admission to Takapoto Estate is free Tuesday through Friday, with tickets available for Saturday and Sunday. There’s plenty of shaded areas under the trees around the main arena for those keen to bring a blanket, and with plenty of food trucks there’s no shortage of things to eat and drink.
G. H. Mumm is back at Takapoto but this year as the main event. Pernod Ricard national sales manager Trent Orange says G. H. Mumm’s motto of nec plus ultra – only the best – aligns perfectly with the pursuit of competitors at the Takapoto Classic.
“We are proud to partner with the Takapoto Classic once again,” said Mr Orange. "It is a must-attend luxury equine sport event on the New Zealand calendar.”
The Champagne House is expanding its presence and support in 2025 as naming rights partner of the Grass Arena and esteemed Grand Prix Luncheon. The exclusive G.H. Mumm RSRV, which has been traditionally reserved for a circle of insiders and friends and sourced from only Grand Cru vineyards, will be available for private tastings with selected invited guests.
Takapoto Estate is a brand synonymous with quality – whether it be world-class equestrian, its award-winning wines or supreme Angus and venison.
