We have been asked by the Dannevirke A&P Show Committee to email all livestock competitors with a warning about a new regulations proposed which could dramatically impact showing livestock at the show. It will affect even a property owner with a couple of sheep. There is a chance to stop it.
We would urge Everybody (whether or not you are connected to the A&P Society) to read the proposed legislation and to lodge a submission objecting the implementation of this Bylaw. Links below.
Submissions must be in by 31st July so there is not much time!!! Please help stop this proposal from going through.
URGENT NOTICE Re: Tararua District Council Proposed Keeping of Animals Bylaw 2024
it has just been brought to our attention that the Tararua District Council are proposing to Drastically change the regulations around keeping of the animals in urban areas. This proposed legislation will dramatically affect not only the way we run the Show Grounds including our Annual A&P Show.
This legislation also affects any person or organization who grazes land in an urban area within the Tararua District by limiting the type of animals you can graze(sheep only). The keeping of any entire male animals (rams, stallions, bulls, roosters, tom cats ect) Considering the breeding of animals to be a commercial activity and may fall under the conditions of the resorce management act.
This would mean that any Property owner with a couple of ewes would not be able to bring a ram in to serve the ewes unless you applied for a permit and complied with the RMA.
As far as the Show Grounds are concered it appears as though this legislation would remove the ability to hold any of the following events with out applying to the TDC for a permit. Which presumed could be costly. 🐷Dannevirke Pork lords involving a boar 🐔Poultry shows involving roosters 🐏Shearing events involving rams and ram lambs 🐮Cattle events involving bulls and bull calves 🐴Equestian Events involving stallions 🐱Petting zoo
The Bylaw would also serously impact our ability to farm the showgrounds which is a major source of annual income for the A&P Society.
We would urge Everybody (whether or not you are connected to the A&P Society) to read the proposed legislation and to lodge a submission objecting the implementation of this Bylaw
This proposed Bylaw affect everyone -from the pensioner keeping a couple of cats through to lifestyle block owner seeking to provide food for the family.
For the ongoing wellbeing of the community and community based facilities to sustain longevity these bylaws need to be altered or stopped!!
