NEW FEI classes feature at Dunstan Wairarapa Jumping Show
Tuesday, 20 October 2015

The Wairarapa Area Showjumping and Showhunter Group are again running their Premier League show over Labour weekend 24th – 26th October 2015.
As part of the ESNZ Jumping season calendar this show provides competitors with valuable Horse and Rider Series points, on the competitive National point’s tables.

The very picturesque Solway showgrounds in Masterton will provide a fantastic backdrop and grounds for these competitions to take place. Caretaker Brian Tatton and newly appointed Manager Melissa Warren will be opening the gates for the trucks to roll in on Friday with competition set to start on Saturday and run through until Monday.

Jenny Booth and her committee are putting 5 rings on, 4 for showjumping and 1 for Showhunter.

“It’s very exciting this year as we are running the second round of the North Island FEI World Jumping Challenge, which is open to pretty much every rider in NZ over 14 years of age.”

These riders compete on horses not ponies in this challenge in which there are 3 height categories. Each category runs 2 rounds over 2 days. Competitors compete at 3 different shows to gain points towards the final show which will be held at the National Equestrian Centre’s Xmas Classic Show in December. The first round has already been run at Equidays which was held last weekend at the Mystery Creek Events Centre.

The South Island will also run this competition at 3 different shows.

The overall winner from both Islands will represent New Zealand in the Australasian pool standings, and may go to the final against the rest of the world.

With entries rolling in Jenny is confident of quality, competitive jumping throughout the 3 days.

“We are looking forward to hosting riders Katie Laurie, who represented New Zealand at the World Cup Finals in Las Vegas in April, International riders Helen McNaught and Duncan McFarlane who have moved back to New Zealand to settle in Taupo and South Island Young Rider of the Year Olivia Robertson who has come to the North Island to campaign at World Cup level. And the show would not be the same without an appearance from stalwart Maurice Beatson who will show with 9 horses.”

We welcome the public into the grounds with free entry and with food vendors on site they can settle in for the day to see a great display of jumping by equestrians finest.
