Wairarapa Area Showjumping - 3 Star

Massie and Ludo take Wairarapa
Tuesday, 29 October 2013

Nothing like a good challenge to get Logan Massie and Kiwi Ludo into top gear.
The 19-year-old from Dannevirke steered the lovely chestnut he co-owns with Annette Scott to victory in the Bayer Super League at the Wairarapa Showjumping and Show Hunter Championships in Masterton today.

It was a small field that started the big class of the day, with a couple of late scratchings due to the ground which had hardened up over a weekend of strong winds.

Just three went clear in the first round – Massie, Robert Steel (Hawera) on Gospel and Lucy Akers (Opiki) on Cortaflex Tinapai.Steel was out first in the jump-off and rode a very efficient and smooth round aboard his perennial home-bred mount, leaving everything in place.

Next out was Akers who shaved two seconds off his time but had the last fence down.

It was up to Massie and the 11-year-old Fernhill Stud bred gelding who flew around, swiping another two seconds off the fastest time to take the honours.
The pony grand prix was also a very compact class, with the very experienced Melanie Weal (Te Awamutu) and Hopeful Illusion cruising to victory with a double clear.

Earlier in the show, Clarie Wilson (Waipukurau) and Tipsey continued their purple patch to win their third grand prix on the trot with victory in the hotly-contested one star class.
