Cammock takes the Spoils
Tuesday, 18 April 2017

It was a “match race” between Emily Cammock and Kirsty Sharapoff at McLeans Island, Christchurch, over the weekend, with the lead in the Ultimate Design & Renovation CNC3* changing after each phase, but it was Cammock who triumphed in the end, to take the generous first prize and the ESNZ Eventing Super League points.

Cammock led after the dressage with Shaw Lee by the narrow margin of 1.3 penalties, but Sharapoff and Shoot The Breeze aimed for a clean sheet and finished the cross-country inside the time to take top spot, while Cammock had 3.6 time penalties to reverse the placings, but still with less than a showjumping rail between them.

Shaw Lee had a rail down, but Shoot The Breeze had two, so handed the lead back to the experienced Cammock, who also finished third on her other ride, Lewis. It was Cammock’s first Super League points in the year long series, so the standings at the top of the table are unaffected.

The penultimate New Zealand event will be at the Central Districts trials near Foxton on 29/30 April, but the Super League culminates at the Melbourne Three-day Event in June this year, where the Oceania Championships are being held. A training squad for the Championships is expected to be named shortly, with the team to be announced prior to the NRM Three-day Event at Taupo, May 12-14.
