Friday, 18 July 2014

Tim Price is leading the New Zealand charge at the CHIO Aachen World Equestrian Festival in Germany this morning, sitting in second place after the showjumping.

Aboard Wesko (owned by The Wesko Syndicate – Christina Knudsen, Peter Vela, Lucy Sangster and Kate Watchman), Price is six penalty points behind leader Sandra Auggarth (GER) on Opgun Louvo on 33.8 after going clear and inside time in the showjumping Auffarth has held the front since the dressage, but Price came up from eighth in the dressage to his current second spot.

Also moving up the leaderboard was Andrew Nicholson and Nereo (owned by Libby Sellar) who added two time faults to his dressage score to move from 21st to 16th on 47.6, Jonelle Price aboard Faerie Dianimo (owned by Mrs Trisha Rickards and Jacky Green) who did the same to share the score and move from 19th to 17th, and Tim Price on Ringwood Sky Boy (owned by Robert Taylor, Selwood.com and Price) who moved from 28th to 25th to sit on 51.2.

The news wasn’t so good for Lucy Jackson and Willy Do (owned by Gillian Greenlees and Jackson) who rode a lovely dressage test to score 38.6 penalty points, but bagged 14 faults during the showjumping to slip from fifth to 27th on 52.6.

There were just nine clear rounds inside time from the 42 combinations.

In the teams event, New Zealand is sitting in fifth – hosts Germany lead on 124.2 penalty points, followed by Great Britain on 136.4, France on 137.4, Australia on 139 and New Zealand on 146.4.

Making up the New Zealand team score are Nicholson on Nereo, Jonelle Price on Faerie Dianimo, Tim Price on Ringwood Sky Boy and Jackson on Willy Do.

The eventing finishes tomorrow with the cross country.

The Aachen event is seen as a vital part of the build-up to next month’s Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in France.
